Michael Meyer is a specialist in sustainable development through tourism in and around protected areas, with an emphasis on participatory planning processes. The geographical scope of his work is concentrated around Central and East Europe and South-East Asia. He joined the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2006 and over the last 20 years has worked in the field of development cooperation with the World Bank, the Global Environmental Facility, the United Nations Environment Programme, UNESCO and the EU. He is a member of the roster of experts of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
